Create split canvas prints – more pictures for your wall
Multi-panel wall art is an attractive way to have your photos printed on canvas even more spectacularly. Split canvas prints open up further interesting options for decorating. Most often, the canvas print will be designed as a 3-part series – an arrangement that has a long tradition in history. Three-part sets (also known as triptychs) are the classic arrangement for altarpieces and have been around since the early Middle Ages.
Motifs for triptych wall art
Generally speaking, there are many motifs that are suited to split canvas prints. However, you should make sure that important photo content will not be cut. Take care that people, especially heads, don’t end up right between the individual components of the multi-panel canvas. This doesn’t look good at all on the finished canvas print.
The most harmonious motives, however, are landscapes. Mountain ranges, beach landscapes and sunsets are popular motifs on split canvas prints panoramic. But cityscapes, too, can make very attractive triptych wall art. These are especially effective when the motif is not specific and the focus isn’t on one element in particular. The easiest way is to simply upload some photos into our editor and have a look to see if the motif is suitable.
Multi panel canvas prints – a multitude of options
Although triptych wall art is the most popular multi-panel canvas print, there are of course many other options when it comes to dividing up your own photo artfully. The 4-part canvas print is also frequently chosen. These can be designed either as a 4-part set arranged in a row or as a 4-part set arranged in a square shape. Both versions are interesting options and selection will depend on where you want to hang your photos on canvas.
More and more 5-part split canvas prints are being created as a new trend. These are arranged so that the canvasses, which are larger towards the middle of the arrangement, are each perceived in their own right. This creates a new dimension for your photo on canvas: aside from the dimension of the motif, a dimension of form that makes your split canvas print even more interesting.
Split your canvas print and stretch it on a frame
When you split an image on to a canvas print, you have to pay attention to how the edges will be. The complete motif for the canvas must be preserved on the front of the triptych wall art. Failing to do this will lead to curious gaps in the motif. It is therefore advisable to have your canvases printed with white edges. This will ensure that the multi-panel canvas prints will retain their full image motif despite division.
The second option is mirroring the edge. This means that the visible motif is retained on the front of the canvas and the frame is also printed. The split canvas print thus has the effect of being a self-contained object.
Triptych wall art comprising of several photos
Multi-panel canvas prints are commonly thought of as comprising of one photo motif. But there are other variations. A photo series composed of several images can just as easily be arranged as a split canvas. For this purpose, simply select the best shots from a photo session. When each is printed on canvas in the same format, the motifs act together as a picture series on the wall.
In this design option, however, you should ensure that the images all have a similar colour scheme. The motifs should also be seen as belonging together. When this is successful, you have a fascinating multi-panel series that will delight the viewer.
Dimensions on the wall – split canvas prints are giant photos
Your own photo as a piece of triptych wall image is an attractive alternative to large format. Large wall spaces can also be decorated variously with a combination of several canvas prints. In comparison to XXL formats, multi-panel pictures offer additional design options: The arrangement of the photos on canvas brings an added design element that large formats just don’t have. These can only boast their sheer size and motif.
Een foto op canvas drieluik, vijfluik of meerluik maken
Foto’s op canvas in drieluik zijn een aantrekkelijke mogelijkheid om je eigen foto’s nog spectaculairder op canvas af te drukken. Want met meerdere canvasdoeken heb je ook mogelijkheden. Het vaakst wordt de foto op canvas drieluik gemaakt. Dit is een indeling die ook in de geschiedenis een lange traditie kent. Want het drieluik (ook wel triptiek genoemd) is de klassieke indeling van altaar afbeeldingen bekend uit de Middeleeuwen.
Afbeeldingen voor een foto canvas drieluik
In principe zijn veel onderwerpen geschikt voor een foto canvas drieluik. Toch moet men erop letten dat belangrijke onderdelen van de afbeelding niet verknipt worden. Juist personen – voornamelijk het hoofd – moet niet op het snijvlak van een drieluik komen. Dat ziet er op een klant en klare canvas niet goed uit.
De meest harmonische afbeelding is een klassieke landschapsfoto of een panorama foto. Zonsondergangen zijn populaire foto's voor drieluiken. Maar ook stadsgezichten, gebergtes en stranden laten zich aantrekkelijk op een driedelige foto op canvas vormgeven. Juist als er geen specifiek onderwerp is en er geen focus is op een bepaald object. Het makkelijkst is het om foto’s in de editor te uploaden en uit te proberen of de afbeelding geschikt is.
Drieluik foto op canvas – er zijn veel mogelijkheden
Alhoewel het drieluik het meest populaire meerluik is, zijn er natuurlijk nog veel meer mogelijkheden om je eigen foto op te delen. Ook een vierluik canvas wordt vaak gekozen. Deze kan zowel als vierluik naast elkaar of als vierkant ingedeeld worden. Afhankelijk van de voorgenomen plaats zijn beide uitvoeringen een interessante optie. De nieuwste trend is om steeds vaker vijfdelige meerluiken op canvas vorm te geven. Die zijn zo vormgegeven dat de foto canvas naar het midden toe steeds groter wordt en een eigen onderwerp heeft. Zo ontstaat een nieuwe dimensie voor je foto op canvas: naast een afbeelddimensie is er een objectdimensie, die je canvas nog interessanter maakt.
Een foto canvas in delen op het frame spannen
Wie een gedeelde afbeelding op canvas wil afdrukken, moet op de vormgeving van de rand letten. Op de voorkant van het meerluik moet de gehele canvasafbeelding behouden blijven. Als dit niet lukt, kan dat tot opmerkelijke gaten in de afbeelding leiden. Wij raden aan het canvas met een witte rand af te drukken. Op deze manier is gewaarborgd dat de afbeelding op het meerluik, ondanks de opdeling, volledig behouden blijft. De tweede mogelijkheid is de rand te spiegelen. Zo blijft de zichtbare afbeelding op de voorkant behouden en ook de rand is bedrukt. Op deze manier lijkt het meerluik een naadloos object.
Een meerluik foto op canvas uit meerdere foto’s
Over het algemeen bestaat een meerluik foto canvas uit één afbeelding. Maar er is nog een andere variant. Een serie bestaand uit meerdere foto’s laat zich ook heel goed als meerluik vormgeven. Kies hiervoor gewoon de mooiste afbeeldingen van een fotosessie uit. Als deze allemaal apart in hetzelfde formaat gedrukt worden, ontstaat zo een mooie serie van afbeeldingen aan de wand.
Bij deze vormgevingsoptie moet je er wel op letten dat de afbeeldingen binnen een soortgelijke kleurenruimte vallen. Ook de onderwerpen zouden als gerelateerd herkenbaar moeten zijn. Als dit lukt, dan ontstaat een meerluik dat iedereen zal enthousiasmeren.
Een meerluik is ook een groot formaat
Je eigen foto op canvas als meerluik is een aantrekkelijk alternatief voor een groot schilderij. Met de combinatie van meerdere foto’s op canvas laat zich de wand naar iedere wens decoreren. Daarbij heeft een drieluik of meerluik in vergelijking met een extra groot formaat aanvullende mogelijkheden. Door de indeling van de canvas foto’s ontstaat een extra vormgevingsdimensie, die een afbeelding in groot formaat niet heeft. Deze kan slechts met zijn grootte en afbeelding overtuigen.
